Dear Readers, Beniamino Vizzini director of Tracce Cahiers d'Art, presents on his website a descriptive and critical reading of the artwork painted in 1887 by PAUL GAUGUIN "Coastal landscape from Martinique (the Bay of Saint-Pierre, Martinique)", an oil on canvas of great effect.
The painting is exhibited in GAUGUIN AND LAVAL IN MARTINIQUE at the Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam where you can admire the artworks that the post-impressionist master has made on the island of Martinique, together with his friend and colleague Charles Laval. From 5 October 2018 to 13 January 2019 GAUGUIN AND LAVAL IN MARTINIQUE, the first ever exhibition dedicated to a significant but neglected period of Paul Gauguin's artistic career: the four months spent on the island of Martinique in 1887 together to friend and painter Charles Laval. An important number of the series of works created on the island, together with their preliminary drawings and large pastels, is exhibited together for the first time in this rich and colorful exhibition.
